Unable to delete a page layout or a master page in SharePoint: This item cannot be deleted because it is still referenced by other pages
Posted by Ali Sanaei under Computer Software, Science and Technology, Websites
Today I ran into an error while trying to delete a Master Page on MOSS 2007. I made a mistake by copying few wrong files and creating duplicated Master Pages under ”_catalogs”. I thought I can simply right click on it and delete it, but no, it wasn’t that simple! Even when deactivating and uninstalling a page layouts feature these pages still stay in the “Master Page and Page Layout Gallery”. I tried to delete it manually from the gallery and from designer. This gave me the following error message:

After a bit of lookup, I realised that this is a confirmed problem by Microsoft. The KB article 926812 proposes to change the properties of the master page to Hidden. This long workaround did not solve my problem!
There was however one workaround that solved the problem very quickly:
1- Create a new sub-folder in the master page gallery.
2- Move the Master Pages to the new folder.
3- Now delete the new folder.
4- The unwanted Master Pages are finally gone from the gallery!
Note: I did the above steps by using SharePoint Designer. It’s also doable in SharePoint itself.
While my problem was specific to master pages; I think the same solution will work with Page Layouts as well.

Google toolbar not available for Iranians
Posted by Ali Sanaei under Iran, Middle East, Websites
Yesterday I uploaded my Firefox to 2.0.0.5, suddenly Google toolbar disappeared! Then I tried to download the toolbar from Google’s latest toolbar web-page, but it wasn’t letting me to do so. After trying many times I asked few of my friends about the problem and they informed me that Google does not allow Iranian Internet users to download the toolbar any more!
I don’t understand what’s wrong with Google. They even change their logo for the Iranian New Year (Norouz, Nowruz or Norooz) every year at 21st March to a logo related to the event.

Is Google against feminism ?!
Posted by Ali Sanaei under Websites
Do you think Google is against feminisim or at least women?!
Why am I saying this? well, if you ever wonder to find out some inventions done by women and obviously try googling it, when you search for “She Invented”, Then Google search result page will give you “Did you mean: he invented”
I know that’s a result term given by machines only because people are mostly searching for he invented than she invented and also most of the websites have written he. but these feminist organisations are usually very picky and make too much out of these sort of stuff. I wonder why they haven’t had a word with Google about this yet, or maybe they had, but Google still prefer’s to do its own way.

Awesome feature, converting youtube to video files on your PC !
Posted by Ali Sanaei under Music, Websites
This is something I was personally looking for months!
Zamzar has introduced the ability to convert files from URLs and they’ve included support for all the favourite video sites.
Again, very easy and five fast simple steps:
Step 1- you need to go to Zamzar’s URL website
Step 2- Enter the video’s URL
Step 3- Enter your email address. Just be aware that you’re email host should accept large email attachments.
Step 5- Click on the convert button and it is all done! The video file will be emailed to you in few minutes.
Zamzar currently supports most of the major video sharing websites such as youtube, google video, myspace, putfile, apple, blip.tv, grouper, ifilm, dailymotion, etc.

Have you ever wanted to convert files without the need to download a software? sounds great, hah?!
I visited Zamzar’s website and it really works so easy and fast! You need to simply go to the website and do as follow:
Step 1- Upload your file (up to 100MB)
Step 2- Choose the format to convert to
Step 3- Enter your email address. Just be aware that you’re email host should accept large email attachments.
Step 4- Click on the convert button and it is all done! Now it will be emailed to you in few minutes.
It’s possible to convert almost every sort of image formats (extensions) to jpg (jpeg), bmp, gif, tiff, tga, ico, pcx, png, wbmp, wmf, etc.
Also it’s possible to convert document formats to doc, docx (word 2007), pdf, ppt, csv, xml, html, odp, ods, odt, rtf. xls, etc.
And convert music formats to aac, ac3, flac, m4a, mmf, mp3, ogg, ram, ra, wav, wma, etc.
And finally, most of the video formats to 3gp, avi, flv, gvi, ipod, m4v, mov, mp4, mpg, ogg, rm, rmvb, vob, wmv, etc. actually it is better to refer to the detailed list of conversion types.
Hope you enjoy it …
